Help, please

by Miza-T @ 2007-08-04 - 18:13:11

I need you help blogmates.
I'm dead confused with this windows vista edition.
I need to buy a new computer, and I was researching out there, I was told that the computer comes with windows vista home edition installed, BUT, then I have to buy the microsoft office separatelly. And the home & student edition costs £100!!
I mean, is that right? Doesn't the vista software bring all we need? Is Microsoft going nuts? Are they selling brand new computers and I need to spend £100 to have Microsoft Word? Doesn't make sense to me!Or are these sales people trying to get some extra money from me?
Any advice, please?
Thanks

Hi

We got a laptop with Vista on and were able to download a "trial" version of microsoft office. When that runs out we plan to put the old office on from our old pc

rip off I reckon!

That sounds better. Do you reckon we would be able to install an old microsoft office on vista then?
The guy said vista doesn't let you download programmes from the internet!!
Thanks, I really need to get all the info I get, because I'm no computer nerd, :)) Lol

We got the trial office from the microsoft site, but to be honest I don't really like it.

Vista is ok, once you get used to it.

The guy who sells me my computer stuff always fully loads a comp for new customers I have never had to buy extra Sounds like you need to deal with someone else and say you want the full package installed or no deal

Here in NZ My brand new desk PC with a 17 inch flat screen, cost about 500 pounds in UK money, with lots of extras, including Windows Vista Home Premium.

Have misssed your visits - too busy I guess.

Not too busy, just with a broken computer. It takes me 3 hours to switch it on, and 10 minutes to open a new page...just annoying. Even my family is complaining, because I haven't been on msn chatting.
Do you like Vista then?
Did it come with word processor?

Please be sure to buy wisely.

Make sure that you know exactly what you are getting and whether you are missing out on anything that you badly need. Good luck - Skip.

Yes, it sure does. It is called Microsoft Works. An excellent program. And I wanna copy of your book when it is published. I will gladly pay for it.

Thanks Koen, I think I'll buy the computer , try it on and if I need a specific program I'll buy latter then. I'm no expert but to install a new programme you just have to follow the instructions, right?

well,
i am software engg. who dont buy software but work for the company who buys softwares.

I can surely say that why do you want vista only. It depends on your needs that what do you want to do with your computer. if you are going to use it for your entertainment and just for some word docs then u dont need to have microsoft office only. u can have other word processors.

Ok, here's the definitive answer to your questions (I work in the computer industry). Windows Vista is not liked by the industry, it is not yet a stable product. If you can buy a computer with Wiondows XP (and there are still some about)then it will be stable and cost less.

Vista and XP are operating systems - all they do is help the computer to live. If you want it to perform functions you have to buy application software, such as word proccessor and speadsheet. You do not have to buy application software when you buy a computer, you can install older application software on new computers, so if you have an old version of office (the original CD) then you can install it on your new computer. When such applications are bundled together they are called an "office suite". Microsaoft make a couple of office suites - Works and Office. Office is a lot more expensive. There are other office suites that are a lot cheaper than MS Office.

you should always receive the original CD when buying a MS office suite, if you don;'t then it is likely to be a counterfeit product - in other words the intellectual property has been stolen - this is a crime. Uusually organised crime is at the back of such theft - there's really big money in it.

bottom line is buy from a reputable seller that's been in business for a good few years, and preferably a British company, so they are paying UK tax and employing UK people
